The grip is made of brier, which is mainly used for pipes. Both the brier grip and the oak shaft are polished with Suri-Urushi. Suri-urushi is a technique of rubbing raw lacquer into the surface. The process of polishing lacquer accentuates the beauty of the wooden grain. To produce the grain on a sphere requires the skill of a master craftsman. The material used for the neck, extra super duralumin, has strength and beauty.
